Amnesia, is a condition where mrmory is disturbed. Amnesia affects both organic and functional causes. An example of an organic cause of amnesia is damage to the brain, through trauma or disease. Where as an example of a functional cause involve physcholigical elements such as the defense mechanisms. There is several different types of amnesia which I have broken down below:

transient global amnesia, anterograde amnesia, retrograde amnesia, type of amnesia, dissociative amnesia, amnesia ibiza, global amnesia, club amnesia, cause of amnesia, amnesia from love

Where as an example of a functional cause involve physcholigical elements such as the defense mechanisms. There is several different types of amnesia which I have broken down below:

Lacunar amnesia
Lacunar amnesia relates directly the loss of memory on one specific event.

Global amnesia
Global amnesia is when you lose your entire memory. It is thought that this is a defense mechanism that are body instates after a very traumatic event. As a result of this complete loss, it is common that post-traumatic stress disorder can develop, and involve the spontaneous and realistic flashes of these traumatic memoreis.

Traumatic amnesia
Traumatic amnesia occurs most often due to a head injury, such as falling or being hit on the head. General with traumatic amnesia the length of the amnesia is directly related to the extent of the injury itself. In often cases a mild trauma is suffered, during events such as a car accident, where the occupant of the car might have an interuption in their memory just before the accident because of a brief loss in the memory transfer mechanism.

Dissociative amnesia
Dissociative amnesia refers to the long-term repressed memory that can result in emotional or pschological trauma.

Childhood amnesia
Childhood amnesia, which in several instances is called Infantile amnesia, is probably the most common type of amnesia – the failure to remember events from our childhoods. There is many popular theories as to why we have this loss of memory from our child; most recently it has been thought to be as a result of language development or under-developed parts of the brain.

New Treatment For Blocked Arteries May Save Limbs

New Treatment For Blocked Arteries May Save Limbs

There’s good news for people at risk for limb amputation due to complications from diabetes: A new laser procedure has been shown to be highly successful in “salvaging” limbs, thus providing a new alternative in the fight against amputation.

More than 1 million people in the U.S. suffer from critical limb ischemia (CLI), the most severe form of peripheral arterial disease (PAD)-a common condition in people with diabetes. CLI is the progressive accumulation of plaque and thrombus in the arteries of the leg, resulting in obstruction of blood flow. Left untreated, the condition can lead to pain, foot ulcers and limb loss. An estimated 160,000 amputations are performed in the U.S. each year, directly stemming from CLI-and many of them are preventable.

CLiRpath (Cool Laser Revascularization for Peripheral Artery Therapy) uses a “cool” excimer laser to treat arterial blockages common in CLI. The laser catheter is fed down patients’ leg arteries to the blockage that is causing their wounds and pain. CLiRpath vaporizes the blockage, allowing blood flow to resume, which may increase the chances that wounds can heal, limbs can be saved and patients’ psychological and physical well-being can be improved.

“CLiRpath is less intrusive and requires less recovery time than bypass surgery, and may provide CLI patients an alternative to amputation. While CLiRpath is not a cure for CLI, the therapy provides a minimally invasive treatment option for a potentially deadly condition,” said Dr. Craig Walker, an interventional cardiologist with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South, and a pioneer in developing and performing this advanced treatment.

CLiRpath, developed by Spectranetics Corp., is a critical breakthrough in helping prevent amputation. The procedure resulted in a 95 percent limb salvage rate for patients surviving to six months in a clinical trial, the LACI CTRO Registry.

Other Options

Conventional nonlaser treatments for blocked arteries include angioplasty, bypass surgery and medication. Angioplasty on its own is sometimes inadequate as a stand-alone treatment. In those cases, several techniques might be utilized, including excimer laser and rotational atherectomy. Your physician will make decisions on which is most appropriate.

The Asbestos Trust Fund Bill

A bill continues to languish in Congress which was designed to resolve many thousands of asbestos related lawsuits, leaving many waiting for a just resolution as they continue to endure their painfull illness without compensation.

According to a study released in September 2004 by the American Thoracic Society (ATS), asbestos continues to be a hazard for more than a million American workers in the construction industry and those involved in buildings and equipment maintenance. The study also warns of new products that may contain asbestos,These products may include: brake pads, roofing materials, and imported cement pipe and cement sheeting that could expose workers to an increased risk of asbestos related cancer.

Although government researchers are reporting a new rush of asbestos related claims, which is expected to continue over the next 20 years, it was believed when the legislation was first introduced in 2000 that the vast majority of asbestos related cancer claims were over, and the legislation was designed to take care of the thousands of remaining cases which were clogging up the courts.

But for many of the asbestos related cancer victims, the fact that the legislation continues to be held up has meant many patients have been unable to collect damages owed they are certainly entitled to before death takes its toll. The proposed legislation makes available, to the victims of asbestos related disease, a “trust fund” to take care of the needs of those suffering from mesothelioma and other asbestos related diseases. This legislation would eliminate companies from being sued and unclog courts of tens of thousands of new asbestos claims.

Though a compromise is on the table between the Republican and Democratic Senate leaders on the size of the asbestos fund of $140 billion, there is a lot of dispute and argument that a large number of people with asbestos cancer and other serious asbestos illnesses will be left out. $140 billon dollars, they say, is insufficient to cover the rush of Americans expected to develop asbestos related disease over the next several decades.

Genital Herpes- what is it?

Genital Herpes is the herpes infection of genitals. It affects both men and women. It is caused by the HSV type2. The only way to spread this disease is sexual contact. Anybody who has genital herpes may pass it on to the partner without any knowledge. Let us see how?

Genital Herpes- silent transmission

Let us take an example. Suppose your partner contacted genital herpes from someone during a sexual encounter. The virus entered your partner’s body. The virus will show anytime within 20 days of getting contacted. The symptoms may be sores and blisters, fever, joint ache etc. Here comes the problem. Many times these symptoms are so insignificant that no body realizes about them. The symptoms will resolve after some days. Now your partner is a silent carrier of Genital herpes. He/she may be unaware that they are carriers. During this time, if you have sexual contact with them, you will catch the virus.

Genital Herpes- Treatment

Whenever herepes symptoms get noticed, the doctors treat them with anti viral medicines. The problem of rashes and blisters gets resolved. But the virus does not get out of the body. It remains inside. It can cause active herpes sores again in future. Some people may not get any recurrence, while some may get many.

Genital Herpes- Prevention

Condoms are one way to prevent herpes. If any body part that is not covered by condom and is carrying active virus comes in contact with you, you will sill get it. To know if anybody is a silent carrier of herpes, blood test can be carried out by the doctor for herpes antibodies.

For African American males, smoking may be a serious problems because the last researches have estimated that the cancer death rate for black men it is about 40 per cent more higher than for white men and remain very higher than others ethnic groups in the United States.

For black men, cancer according with the new cancer’s studies clarifies that is tobacco smoke the first cause of this disease; death cancer for African American males is about 35 per cent higher in males than females today.

National Cancer Institute reported that four of ten cancer death in black men in United States could have been related to this disease; in 2000 the rates have been dropping but remain higher than the other ethnic groups especially white groups.

Some areas of United States have strongest tobacco-control programs, like higher cigarettes taxes, antismoking education programs, and penalties for selling tobacco to minors, but the government and others no-government organization is still working in this illness.

There are a lot of studies and researches, but always it is important to mention that today the people know and have more information than 10 years ago for instance; and the government is constantly educating the new generations in tobacco cancer.

By the way, Reiki is an alternative therapy treatment that might be used in cancer and other diseases with interesting results, this one works with energies and could be very useful if Reiki is applied for Reiki Masters or Practitioners, research in your locality for further information.

Herpes Is Not A Death Sentence

Everyday the number of people around the world that find that they have herpes is staggering. Over 50% of the white population, over 70% of the African American population and over 60% of the Japanese population have herpes. What most people don’t know is that it is not a death sentence. OF course people know that they won’t die from herpes but you would think that they were going to die the way that they act.

Most average citizens know that there is a genital herpes and many understand that there is also a herpes that affects the lip and eyes of either one or both sides of the face. That’s right cold sore or fever blisters are actually herpes. So how do people get these? The answer to that question varies. Sometimes it is picked up through sexual contact from genital to genital or it can be oral to genital and it can also be mouth to mouth. By the time that children are 4 years old they are exposed to the herpes virus in some shape or form through day care, school groups and other kids activities.

So what should you really be thinking if you just found out that you have herpes? The answer is that many times the mental anguish of herpes far outweighs the physical aspect of it. Genital herpes is a cold sore on the genitals that usually lasts about 7 days and often reoccurs every six months and can be attributed to a weakened state of the immune system that is often found with stress. Many people often claim that too much sugar or lack of sleep can bring on an outbreak.

If you just had your first outbreak then there could be many different roads that you will travel. For many they have one outbreak – the initial one and then they never have another herpes outbreak. For some it can be more persistent and troublesome. There are products on the market today that can really help with outbreaks. However in our opinion the natural based or herbal based treatments are more effective at eliminating the outbreaks. Does this mean that they cure herpes? Cure is strong word but for many that use natural based herpes treatments they never have an outbreak again. Whether that is controlling the outbreaks or killing the viruses we don’t know but for many they never have another outbreak and that is vital.

Point being that there are many things that a person that now has herpes can do to prevent further outbreaks and as time goes on they do not feel the mental aspects of finding out that they have herpes as well.

Traveling Exhibit Offers Closer Look at Cancer

A unique, interactive exhibit is traveling to 12 cities nationwide to educate health-conscious and at-risk people about cancers from the top of the body to the bottom – skin, oral, breast, prostate, lung and colorectal.

The Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation’s Check Your Insides Out -From Top to Bottom exhibit features six hands-on, family-friendly learning stations that enable visitors to:

* Learn about the effects of sun exposure and the damage it can do to skin.

* Walk through a gigantic, 20-foot-long, 8-foot-high colon to see healthy colon tissue and the various stages of colorectal cancer.

* Listen to lungs “talk” about lung cancer facts.

* Check out the inside of a large mouth to get the scoop on oral cancer prevention.

* Learn early detection tips for prostate cancer.

* Test knowledge of breast cancer and increase awareness of the facts.

“No matter your age, you should know the risk factors and symptoms for all types of cancer and know your family medical history,” said Carolyn Aldige, president and founder of the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. “The Check Your Insides Out – From Top to Bottom Tour educates adults, students and children alike about cancer prevention, risks, early detection and treatment through an interactive format. It even helps visitors outline their family history.”

The Tour will be traveling across America until February 2005. To find out if it is coming to a town near you, visit CheckYourInsidesOut.org.

The Check Your Insides Out – From Top to Bottom Tour is sponsored by the Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation and made possible by Bristol Myers-Squibb Co. and ImClone Systems Incorporated.

The Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation was started in 1985 when Aldige first understood the power of prevention to defeat cancer and recognized that too few of the country’s resources were used to promote cancer prevention research or education.

Hepatitis is Characterised by Inflammation and Damge to Liver. Hepatitis is caused mainly by viruses and specific Bacteria. Besides from Micro Organisms, it also occurs as an Autoimmune Disorder.

hepatitis, diseases, virus, bacteria, jaundice, enterovirus.

Hepatitis is caused by viruses and Bacteria (Leptospira sps.) and can be Acute(sudden) or Chronic(prolonged). The easy infection of viruses is due to immuno deficiency in humans against the viruses.
The Major Symptoms of hepatitis are Malaise(Inactivity), Anorexia(Loss of appetite), nausea, jaundice, Liver failure, Cirrhosis(Liver Fibrosis), Hepatic coma, Atrophy of Glands etc.

Hepatitis is categorised into 5 types depending on different viruses causing it into namely :
1. Hepatitis A – Infectious Hepatitis or epidemic hepatitis.
2. Hepatitis B – Serum Hepatitis or Serum Jaundice.
3. Hepatitis C – Non A non B hepatitis.
4. Hepatitis D
5. Hepatitis E

Hepatitis A is ahighly infectious disease caused by Enterovirus reffered to as Hepatitis A Virus(HAV) and the incubation peiod for this disease is about 2 – 8 weeks and the disease is called Short Incubation Hepatitis. The virus replicates in the liver of the host.
Treatment of this disease can be done by immunising with inactivated viral vaccine. This disease in comtaminted in the water and feed, so sanitory conditions should be improved to prevent the disease.

Hepatitis B is a parentally transmitted disease. It is caused by HBV, a hepadna virus which is present in the blood. It shows few symptoms and sometimes if passes off asymptomatically. The incubation period is 1 – 6 months so the disease is called Long Incubation Hepatitis.
It is transmitted from mother to child, between intravenous drug abusers, also in Male Homosexuals.
The disease causes Cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The disease can be prevented by using sterlised needles for testing and can be treated by vaccinising with Hepatitis B vaccine.

Hepatitis C is Non A non B hepatitis with an incubation of 7 – 8 weeks. This disease is common in parental drug abusers and also through Blood transfusion.

Hepatitis D & E are less common diseases with very less effect and symptoms. Hepatitis D virus requires the presence Of hepatitis B virus for its multiplication.

It means to “take hold of” or “to seize”. Surgical methods are sometimes used to treat this condition, but medication is the general and more common method.

Not every cause of epilepsy is known to humans, but many probable factors have been identified. These factors include brian damage, head trauma, high fever, bacterial encephalitis, intoxication, acute disturbances of metabolism, brain tumor, and other penetrating wounds to the head. The largest cause of epilepsy, however, is hereditary or genetic.

Any person can endure an epileptic seizure under certian circumstances. The seizures can be provoked by drug overdoses, or in some cases even acute illness. The condition epilepsy, however, does not apply to these people. Epilepsy is defined by recurring, unprovoked seizures, although there is controversy over symptoms required to be diagnosed with the disease.

Only 1 percent of the worlds population suffers from epilepsy according to its criteria, however, it is estimated that there is a slightly higher percentage of actual conditions. Most of this percentage is found in persons under the age of 19, or over the age of 65. The diagnosis criteria for epileptics is widely controversial in the field of medicine. Partial – complex seizures can arguably be considered epileptic, which is why the controversy continues.

The rash results from the entire body reacting to the drug itself and usually develops early in treatment rather than after the drug has been taken for a period of time.

Rash is a change in the skin which affects its appearance and or texture. Most often a rash is localised to one part of the body, but other times it can have an affect on the entire body. Rashes can cause the skin to change color, become bumpy, dry, itchy, swell among other things that can result in alot of pain. Because of the wide array of rash symptoms treatments also vary widely. A proper diagnosis should look at all of the visual and physical symptoms of the rash, and also what the possible cause of the rash was. Often times the area in which the rash exists can tell alot about it’s condition, and where it is going. Rashes are often times associated and a result of diseases. For example, measles with cause a rash, that begins a few days after the fever begins.

The most common causes of rashes today are: allergies, (ex. allerfic reaction to: foods, animeals, dyes, medicines, insect stings, etc), skin contact with an irritant, infection or reaction to a vaccine, skin diseases such as eczema or acne, autoimmune disorders such as psoriasis, cancer or other disease, pregnancy and, exposure to sun or heat.
